Possum Kingdom in South Carolina, November 2008

We are part of an Assembly of God ministry called RV Maps.  Maps is a group of traveling volunteers who go from camp to church to camp to church helping the projects in anyway they can.  It has been these camps and churches that are my favorite places that we have been to on our trip.

Probably one of my favorite Maps projects has been the one in the heart of Possum Kingdom: River Oaks Retreat Center in Honea Path, SC.  Why it is called Possum Kingdom I'll never know...

The camp had a giant gym with basketball, volleyball and skateboard ramps.  The lake down in the hollow from the camp has a slide and a zip line which, at the time we stayed there, were in progress of being built.  The pond was open for fishing.  There are cabins, a lodge and a playground.  The couple who worked the camp owned a paint ball business and so had groups come out to the camp to play paintball and hold air soft gun wars.  Some people from the church and I helped with concessions when these groups came in and had some wild adventures in nacho cheese and giving change for hot dogs.

We were in Honea Path for the fall season, which was absolutely stunning.  The river on camp is beautiful and has lots of large rocks that we sat on.  Stunning.
